What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is probably best described as the 21st century electronic treasure hunt!  It is possibly the fastest growing pastime in the world and currently boasts over 6 million participants!

So what are these 6 million participants all doing – they are searching for over 2 million items of treasure – otherwise known as geocaches or just caches.

And where can these caches be found?  They can be found anywhere in the world, but predominantly in North America and Europe, but especially in the UK.

And why would I want to go geocaching? For several reasons. Man (and woman) has always wanted to collect things, from stamps to antiques and geocaching is just another collecting hobby.  However, whilst searching for the caches you visit the most amazing places which you probably would never otherwise has found,  and this is one of the main attractions.  Like all collecting it is also very addictive and most cachers will try to find more caches than their friends and  it certainly appeals to those with any sort of competitive spirit.
